To any and all sailors that have been out to Lopez Lake in central california, this is a call for stories, pictures or general racing information.

As many of you are aware, we have brought Fleet 259 back into existence last year. We've been having enough fun at the Division 3 regattas that we wanted to reciprocate and host one of our own. I know there is a long history going back to the early 14s at Lopez lake and I was hoping to find some people out there with some specific information about the past. Old photos, race diagrams or detailed descriptions of the courses run.

The park is stoked on getting a big group of Hobies back on the lake, and making it into a legitimate annual event. They've even got half a dozen 16s sewn into a quilt that hangs on the wall in the ranger shack.

We'll be getting specifics up in the next month or so, but we'd like to avoid making mistakes that have already been dealt with in the past as well as making sure to bring back aspects that sailors loved in the past.

That's exactly what I was hoping for. All I've got at the moment is a vintage brochure that lopez has in spanish. Are there any old articles or NORs in the archives?

This race is two weeks away and it looks like we will have a great Hobie 18 turnout.

Look to the Division 3 website for the NOR and sign up!

The local Yacht club had a regatta this weekend and the wind was amazing. For anyone still on the fence... we've got a fantastic venue, with friendly park staff, a local marina/store, boatside camping, tri-tip dinner, raffle... and a sweet little lake that stopped being a regatta destination because it became too popular for the fleet to get the permit for the event.

I'll be there shortly! Caught a 40+ mph tailwind pushing me down the 101

Lopez or Bust.

We had a great turnout this weekend for our first annual Hobie Days at Lopez Lake regatta! Some sketchy wind on Saturday and some nice wind on Sunday. Volunteers were helpful, we had new and old sailors all racing the lake. Surf City Catamarans, Murray's Marine, SLO Sail and Canvas, Trophy Hunters, San Luis Yacht Club, Hobiecat co., Live Local Apparel, House of Bread, SLO Roasted Coffee, Tomasko Salt Water Taffy, Taco Works, Madonna Inn, SLO County Parks, Firestone Brewery, Talbot Wine donated to help make this regatta come together. We'd like thank everyone that came out to help, race, hang out or contribute in any way. We couldn't have done it without you! Please send us your pictures and we'll get them up shortly. [email protected]

We got a legit article in the local newspaper with some nice photos on their website, check out the link above!

Darn drought.

I'm looking forward to racing at Avila Beach this year! I'll be about 40 lbs. less total crew weight this year and hoping to be competitive.

What can I bring for the bon fire?

We're doing a Fish Fry, up the beach a ways... there is a rule about glass on the beach, as well as alcohol. They get really fussy about the glass if they're paying attention.

Anything is good for bone fire otherwise. Friday night we're going to be down by the Avila Pier at the local Yacht Club, there is a pretty sweet Farmer's Market with live music right off the beach. Should be fun.

Hobie Days 2014 went very well. Beautiful weather, lots of great people, and nice food and drink. We had over 30 boats with new and o... experienced skippers. Santa Cruz is up next!

Last year it was downwind starts all day the first day, and one race had me go downwind to A Mark only to round it and have the wind shift 180 degrees and sail downwind to C Mark.

This year it was downwind starts again on the first two races of the first day, and then the wind shifted for the last two races so we had beam reach starts and drag racing between A and C Marks. The second day the winds were all over the place - off shore, side shore, on shore, dead calm, holy frijoles!

I can't wait to see what the winds have in store for us next year.
