Took the boat up to Lake Gaston for a few days, and the boat/trailer both did great, although I did get about 11 mpg driving with the boat...

wind was unfortunately very light, did get one shot of the hull almost out of the water:

Also was able to get the kayak tied to the trailer, it might look bad, but it worked:

(best pic I have of kayak on the trailer)

Good pix, who is taking them? What year is the Cherokee? I had 91(?) wish we still had her.

My dad was taking some, and I think my mom took a few, we just stayed at the grandparent's lake house over the weekend for a graduation party. The Jeep is a 99, not planning on ever selling this one, even if gas prices get bad. You should get yourself another one, what do you use to haul your boat around?

Hey Drummer - There's a good chance I'll be at Vista Point this weekend. Wanted to go last Saturday, but the wind was so light I decided to sit it out.

I'll see you out there. What are you sailing these days?

Well, I always told myself that I would only sell my boat to someone I knew, or someone who offered way more than it is worth. The camp that I work at was short on Hobies this summer, and had enough money to convince me to sell the boat to them.

Before its trip:

at the place where boats go to die, summer camp:

I'm sure I'll have another Hobie someday, and I'll be able to see this one get sailed/sail it more than I would have otherwise. Hopefully the sails get used with the boat, I'll put up pictures of the boat on trips, as they happen, if the boat survives long enough.

Is that Camp Don Lee?

Great place for teaching kids sailing.

That is Don Lee, yep. We just took the boat on an eventful sail up the Neuse river with 6 other Hobies. Lots of pitchpoling and capsizing/breaking of boats in general. We left with 7 boats, came back with 6. Didn't get too many action shots, as we were busy helping/fixing things as they happened, but here are a few of the less exciting moments:

Jib ripped clean in two:

Image

it's really bad to tow Hobies this fast, but when you've got to be somewhere, you've got to be somewhere.

This is the boat that we didn't sail back, it had way too many problems, although we had the parts to fix them(broken forestay, rudder/tiller set that fell apart, jib traveler track ripped off), we didn't have the time to fix them on the trip. It was trailered back to camp.
those are the only shots I have of things really happening, but the traveler on my boat ripped off, as well as the plate on the tack of the sail:

We did get some nice pictures from the other days of the trip though:

The same Hobies are going to be sailed across the Pamlico sound and back in the next few weeks, I won't be going on the trip, but someone will probably take pictures.

Well, Carmelita was sunk near Ocracoke today. All of the hobies were left turtled and adrift. Except Carmelita, she is probably on the bottom of Pamlico Sound now. Everyone is okay, a bit of a thunderstorm popped up, and people had to get off the water immediately. Leaving their already damaged boats to sink/float/break more. We won't be able to search the sound until Sunday for the boats that may or may not still be there. It turns out that fix we did on the starboard hull's transom wasn't quite bulletproof, my boat was apparently run aground pretty hard. I don't know what actually happened with it, and won't ever know probably, but, it happens, and we'll eventually get new boats. All the campers were unharmed though, so that's good.
