I don't think I've ever seen such a beautiful chair. Wouldn't a couple of these on each ama add the extra buoyancy I'm looking for?

You guys have been so helpful. Can you help me with my do-it-yourself modular home addition? Can't figure out what to do next.

Wow, your house looks big enough already, but if you really need more space for your vehicles and water toys, don't make the same mistake I did.

Be sure the garage is tall enough to accommodate your loaded roof racks,

Especially if you are going to cartop your boats.

Hi! Thank you so much for posting such detailed instructions and parts list! I've got everything ordered and have already gotten all the PVC pieces. I'm building this modular quarterdeck this month and have a very quick clarifying question. On the PVC pieces differing lengths, I'm assuming the 'finished length' mentioned refers to the actual length of each separate piece? As opposed to the measurements of the pieces AFTER they are cemented together. I just wanted to triple check before I start cutting. Again, thank you so much for this great design! I'll take photos along the way and when it's all finished!

The pvc pipe lengths are before being glued. I placed a steel rod inside the area from part 35-55 for extra support should a part come unglued. It was overkill and added to the weight unnecessarily. If I could do it over again, I would just insert a smaller continuous 1 in pvp pipe into the 1& 1/4 area from part 35-55 and maybe even part 1-17. This way if any joint fails, it, won't collapse and yet it remains light weight.

The brand of cushions really is critical for comfort and effect. The Jim-Bouy brand has a single rubberized cushion that has been dipped into and coated with a thick rubberized coating making for a solid NON_SLIP cushion that is waterproof, holds it's shape and won't slide around on you. The cheaper vinyl fabric coated cushion will fail in all three areas and you will miss out on the comfort that these can offer you. Wish they color matched but they don't. Go for utility not the color match, you won't regret it.

You want to make sure the quarterdeck is level. You can do this by paying close attention to angles or you can do what I did and buy a hot air gun for $50 and heat the PVC rod inserts (parts 65 & 66) and bend them every so slightly.

Lastly, you can really improve the quarterdeck experience by adding a single PVP modular backrest. I have a bad back and this allows me to lay back from any position on the quarterdeck and have back support- even when laying down and sailing. Here is the video demonstrating the backrest.

I like this setup so much that unless I can find a way to use this on the 2015 AI, I plan on sticking with my older AI. But man, would like to have the bigger sail more buoyant hull that the 2015 offers.

Roger that on the PVC lengths. It's what I figured but it can't hurt to triple check before cutting! And thank you again for these additional tips! I'll add the 1" PVC insert as recommended for additional strength - great idea. I managed to find the same brand, make/model of the cushions in WHITE; so have ordered those. The backrest design looks absolutely fantastic! I'll think I'll build the basic quarterdeck first and will maybe build the backrest as an add-on at a later date. I'm so excited to get going on this project this week! Thank you again!

Those Jim Buoy cushions look ideal for haka seats and have the added advantage of being a flotation device. Win win, I'll have to try and source them downunder.

Stephanie, where did you find the white version of these cushions. That would be ideal.

When your ready to take on the backrest, let me know and I can post up the details.

Hi Vetgam,

Here's the link for the flotation cushions in white. They're a few bucks more than the orange ones, but I have to admit I like the look a bit better to go with my yellow AI...

Wow , that blue is a perfect match too. I agree though, white is probably the best choice. Wish I had seen these. I would love to see what it looks like in white when your done. Shoot us a picture then, please.

Hi Vetgam,

Below is a photo of the quarterdeck. I've had the project completed for some time; just needed to take some photos out on the water! I gotta say...I LOVE THIS QUARTERDECK DESIGN!!! It's extremely comfortable and rock-solid sturdy. I sailed a Hobie 14 for years and it makes my AI feel more like sailing a Hobie 14 again regarding how you sit, move about, steer, etc. Feels good! Thank you again for the fantastic design! Below is the pic that you were requesting with the white flotation cushions. (ignore the water cannon in the photo...no funny business going on here! :D ) Let me know if the photo doesn't come through as I was struggling a bit to figure out the proper way to post a photo to the forum.
