If you don't have the crew that can do that for you, then put your tiller under your armpit and steer by rotating your torso. This way, on a long beat or reach where you need two hands to pump the main, you can. Just twist your torso in order to steer as the wind shifts.

I takes practice, but it does work.

My arms are tired now! I don't think I'm at that level yet to have the crew work the main sheet like that. It would require a lot of trust in my crew from my part. I seem to sail with too many different people at this time to even try.. It would freak me out not having control of the main sheet...

Love those Anniversary sails! Too bad they weren't offered here!

I prefer a stock tiller because I can fit it between my toes wearing my fancy vibram shoes. My big feet let me do plenty of steering. :D
