One of my local Island buddies, Barry Beech, has come up with a clever way to make car-topping his AI easier. He adds two pieces of pipe to each upright on the trolley, with the middle one slipping over the upright, and another thinner one fitting inside this extension. So the trolley is now high enough that when he lifts the bow to the vehicle roof, the stern is clear of the ground.

Once he pushes the bow forward on the roof, the trolley falls out of the scuppers, and comes apart.

Here Barry gathers the bits together. Also note the PVC tubes he fits over the mast to prevent the tie-downs damaging the sail

quite crafty ... thanks for this. I was trying to figure out how to get my second AI up on the upper deck of my trailer.

This gives me the  needed to make something work

Cheers !!

How does he get the AI up onto the trolley in the first place?

Good question Chris! I didn't see him do it, but I think he assembles the stretched cart, lifts the AI up and inserts the cart. As I haven't actually seen him do it, I will ask, and elaborate and/or confirm tomorrow

I checked with Bazz, and he inserts the cart while the kayak is on its side. No problems for a senior citizen!

Looks like a good solution to the problem however I'd be a bit cautious with the surface of the ground that the cart is going over. I'm sure its great for a smooth road surface but if you hit a rock or a pot hole in the road, the carts new long legs are now acting like a lever and all that load is being transfered and levered through to the scupper holes, which as we know, arn't the strongest part of the hull. Bazz may have already known this but I would hate for him to find out the hard way. :)

Here is another way to get a TI off a car roof without damaging the hull.
It also stabilizes lateral movement and stops the TI moving backwards while
I go to the front and lift the nose off the back of the car.

Inventive lot us Aussies
