My Hobie live well is not working and I am hoping someone can help. It has not been used in a long time and does not work.
When I plug the charger in to the battery and an outlet, the charging light does not go on. Does anyone know if that means the battery is dead or if the charger is bad?
Is the charging light supposed to come on even if the battery is dead? If I plug the charger into an outlet without connecting it to the battery the charging light does not come on either. Should the charging light come on even when not connected to the battery?
I am trying to figure out if it is the charger or battery that is bad so I do not have to buy both.
Thank you for any help.

Hopefully this will help. I'm guessing it's that your battery is dead. If you don't keep the battery on charge or temporarily charge it up and use it then it will lose its ability to hold a charge.

There have been 2 different chargers for the Hobie livewell and 2 different batteries depending on when you bought it. The old charger is smaller and when you plug it in to an electrical outlet you do not see a light come on:

Once you plug the charger in to the battery the light will turn on and be red in color. It will be a solid red light. After several hours of charging the light will begin to blink or flash from red to nothing, red to nothing, red to nothing. This means that the battery is charged and the charger has switched from its full charge mode to trickle charge mode. You can see the charger plugged in to the battery with the red light on while the battery is charging:

The newer charger is larger in size. When you plug it in to an electrical outlet a green light will come on:

When you plug the charger in to the battery the light will turn red or orange which means the battery is in need of charge and is now charging:

Once the battery is charged the light will turn green and this means that the battery is charged and the charger has switched from its full charge mode to trickle charge mode.

I would suggest contacting your Hobie dealer and asking them to order you a new battery. Both the old and new chargers will work with the latest battery.
