I'm new to hobies and I've recently purchased a hobie 16. I've been racing sunfish, 420s, and other boats for many years. I'm not ready just yet, but in the future I'd love to race my hobie. I've done a little research on hobie racing on Long Island and I've only found a few miscellaneous races. We don't seem to have any sort of "league" or association, for lack of better terms, that is dedicated to hobie racing like many other places do. Does anyone know of such a thing on Long Island, NY.

The Annual Around Shelter Island Race is Saturday August 3rd this year. There is a cat division, probably 15 or so boats, half of them are 16's. Great day every year. Hosted by Southold YC.

PM me if you have any questions.

Are the regional races typically held in jersey?

I know, an old thread BUT. Refurbishing my '81 H16 barn find....looking to sail with some others maybe get some local races going. Located in Huntington, NY.
Northport and huntington bays are great spots with nice wind and relatively flat water. Nice open beach and boat ramp in Asheroken.
Would love to enter the around Shelter Island Race. Going to check in with the Southhold YC for this years race.
