Hello all,
took Revo 11 out for fist time. Having problems with the steering I would put the rudder down and start peddling and would end up going in circles going left. I would try to different steering positions and it just seemed like it was not responsive at all. I would pull up rudder and put it back down and start and it seem to be working for a bit but then seem to slip and and peddling in circles again. So I bought this three months ago or so and haven't used till now.

Any suggestion on what the problem could be and or how steering cables could be loose on fist time out. As it really sucks peddling around in circles

When you pulled the down cord out to lower the rudder did you lock it in the
cleat at the corner of the webbed pocket? If not the rudder
will ride up and turn you left.

I did the same thing when I got my Revo 13 and it seems to be a common problem (although simple to solve).

From a Continuous Improvement perspective this is a issue in the customer experience flow chart that could be eliminated. Perhaps a label on the cleat or quick-start insert?

I have the same problem from time to time and I just pull the down chord and hold it there for a bit and keep pedaling. You see I removed the cleat because I didnt like the factory placement, but I think I'm alone in that sentiment.

BTW: it only gets worse with the big rudder upgrade.

Same problem here too...thanks for the info... I just got the big rudder to install and was concerned that it would pop up even more.

Yeah it was little frustrating and embarrassing as first time I went out on what in the surf, and it was a little rough so once I finally got out past the waves I thought I was home free then I kept going in circles my buddy was trying to laugh at me. Then coming I got crash by a wave right in front of my kids 6 and 8 but at least they thought it was cool. Make things worse the one thing my buddy told before we went out was not to wear my sun glasses as he had lost a pair the first time he went in surf and yup lost my nice Oakley's  . I did have have hobie Mirage drive lease worked like a champ thank god. Second time and third time out were way better. I was also have little trouble with tracking and constantly having to use steering lever to straighten out went going parallel with the beach but need to try it out on flat waters and see if I have same issue or was just the current.

When doing surf launches and landings well more tumbling than landing :D I notice that I had a lot of water in hull. Just wandering how do you check hatchs and or which one would be taking in water?

Cheers

Do you have the hatch-liner (ie the plastic tub that fits the large front hatch)? I find that I get a half liter of water in there when I am paddling out through the waves, but said hatch liner prevents that water from going directly into the hull, so when I get past the breakers I sometimes stop and empty this out. I have not had any problems with the 2 round hatches, mid-ship and aft, letting in any water even when I get surprise waves or boat wakes break over the sides of the yak.

Back to the steering thing, I am going to put that cleat back on the kayak so I can "lock" the rudder down; I just need to put it somewhere it won't catch my pant leg this time.

Now that I think of It is hard to tell where water was coming in between breakers and surf landing tumbling and rolling boat :)
