I would be interested to know what you guys use to wash your yacks ? In the past ive used 303 UV protectent. I just pulled my PA out of storage "covered" since 2011. Its perfect but a bit dirty and would like to wash it before applying the 303. Dish soap ? Auto soap ?

Nothing but Kayak soap :!: Think elbow grease is more important than what type of soap

I was actually curious to see what people would say they use too. I spray my mirage drive with WD-40 after every other trip or so when it's dry, but recently I've notice some black greasy stuff getting on the plastic surrounding the drive locks and well. I tried bio dish soap, but it didn't really clean it. What should I use on the plastic? Also, does the mirage drive need to be degreased once in a while?

Yup the same here. The black greasy stuff is on the out side as well. I just dont want to use a degreaser or soap it if can hurt the plastic.

Diver_fcd......I believe the heavy black grease you are seeing is the waterproof marine grease that was used to lube the drive shaft axle......the WD40 has softened up the grease and caused it to "weep/seep" out.......a good de-greaser should cut through the grease around the drive well locks.......then/apply 303 to the area cleaned with the de-greaser.

My suggestion is to be careful where WD40 is applied so the grease remains where it was installed at the factory.....at some point, you need to disassemble the mirage drive moving pieces, clean up and re-grease the shaft.
The FAQ's have some good info on maintenance.......viewtopic.php?f=60&t=12577

i've always found dawn dishwashing detergent to be really good for things like this ... definitely won't hurt the boat plastic(s) and has a really nice grease cutting ability.

just don't go overboard and squeeze it directly on the offending spots ... mix a small amount (say a teaspoon) in 8oz of water and work it with a sponge, soft brush, rag or sturdy paper towel.

make sure to rinse it off with water afterward.

Tide (powder) has been used for power boat cleaning for years :!:

303 is not a cleaner, it's a protectant , apply it just to the top deck areas that get all the sunlight after you clean and dry the yak.

Krud Kutter as someone said above is a great cleaner and is free of solvents.

Another vote for Simple Green. Anywhere from a teaspoon in a gallon to full strength (depending on the job) works great. Smells good, too!

Is Simple green too harsh for a i14t Inflatable provided it is fully rinsed and allowed to dry before bagging?
