I bought my PA a few months ago, I thought the Ram mount tubes would be neat to have. I bought them thinking they would be easy to stow, easy to get rods in and out and could rotate in any direction. So since I have had them they keep getting worse and worse and will not stay in one place. They will gradually just fall down with a rod and reel in them. I am not using them for offshore rods, only light inshore set ups. I can tighten them all the way down and by the time I get good and fishing they will just slip down. Anyone have a solution to this problem. I want to try and get at least a full season out of them before I replace them with Scotty's. I want to add that the screw handle will not loosen, the socket just doesnt grip onto the ball tight enough to hold the weight.

I am with you on this one. I learned a lesson fairly quick after installing them when I came very close to losing a rod/reel combo. I fairly large redfish hit and took the rod and holder down quickly. Yes, I had the drag set loose!

The only thing I use them for now is to store a rod while changing out a lure/etc. I have re-installed the Hobie tubes which fit in the rear flush mount rod holders.

One thing that I did to help this situation was to take some rough sandpaper and sand the ball so it had a rough surface. Helped some but not much.

Drill a hole through them and put a bolt/nut. That way you can always change them if you wish. Hmmmm.... why haven't I thought of that before

You could epoxy strips of black sandpaper to the grippers, then reassemble. That might work.

Sand the interior pieces that grip the ball...use a low # grit sandpaper - something that will rough it up good and create friction when it is clamped down on the ball...

If you decide to change out the holder you may want to watch the video on YouTube of Yakattack new zooka tube coming out.

I have no issues with mine, I have had them for over a year now. I also went with the Hobie Tubes in the back flus mounts tho.

Change them out for the Scotty Rod Holders. They lock down and don't slip. I use mine with the YakAttack Geartrac system. That way they have 2 attachment points on the Yak and are easily removed and stored. A little more expensive but definitely worth it.

It you want to use the RAM Mounts. I would suggest only using the 1.5" balls and to sand them a little to rough them up. I use them all the time on the YAkattach DogBone for camera mounts and to mount some home made outriggers. They work great for that but they don't have the levered tension that a rod has.

Small strips of industrial strength velcro applied to outside of ball and inside of socket? Just thinking out loud. Haven't experimented yet.

Go to "rammount.com" and get there customer
service phone number. I had a problem once
and gave them a call. They are a very large
company and usually are very helpful.
