So I picked up my PA14 a couple of weeks back and noticed that the mirage drive has no rear splash on it. Found this out on maiden voyage, and checked with local dealer on if this was supposed to come with the PA. I looked at all the floor models they had and saw a few without, but most had them. They said that the were supposed to come with ALL the Mirage drives, and would be contacting Hobie on it, well this was a week ago, and checked today and the person who helped me was not there... and they had no answers. I need to buy one, but shouldn't have to if it was supposed to be supplied with the PA.. Just a poll to see if it is.

I picked up my 2 2013 PA14's a week ago and neither of them have the seal on the Mirage Drive either. I noticed that it was mentioned in the manual like it was suppose to be supplied. I haven't quizzed my dealer about it yet, but I plan to this week.

I assume you are talking about the black sort of triangular piece that is suppose to help keep water from entering the cockpit. My 12 came with one but I don't use it. Easier to line up the mirage drive for installation without it and don't take on enough water to worry about. :D

My Mirage drive came with the small splash piece as well, but I never installed it. I have no issues with water splashing from the opening. I'd be curious to know why the piece was needed originally and if it was tied to the older hulls before the alignment guides were molded in.

It appears Hobie has made a design change in the frame to basically "mold in the splash guard"....having owned a 2010 Outback that had the separate/add-on "splash guard", the new Mirage drive design does not need this plastic piece......nor does it have any way to attach one.
I see no reason why one is required as the new design works fine as is.
