Hobie Mirage Sport:

The steering mechanism is loose - what to do?? (The expert fixer died...(exact opposite of a smile) ... although the kayaks (I have two) are wonderful and have not broken in the 8 years I've had them.

Do I just use a special size hex screwdriver to tighten the steering lever? do I have to replace anything - the rudder does respond but seems loose.

Thanks.

Sounds like the connecting cables between the handle and rudder may have loosened over time. Check at the rudder for a small nylon looking cables connected to the rudder. Where they connect are phillips head screws. If the slack is in the lines you just need to loosten the phillips and retension the cables. Center the steering handle and the rudder both before retightening the cable screws.
Hope this helps.

Jim
