Rivet gun

I have the Marson Big Daddy gun. I need a different nose piece to reach into the traveler track. Cant find anything googling. Any ideas?

You can use some small nuts to space the nose out...or grind down the tip.

I had the same issue replacing a halyard cleat on my mast. I used a stack of washers to extend the tip but that just left the stub of the rivet pin sticking up. It was a giant pain to grind it down in such a small place. There has to be a better way.

Try unscrewing the the tip out 3/4 way out or so. I have done this before and it worked for me for hard to set rivets. Doesn't leave a "nipple" either. Jim.

I think he's saying the tip is wider than the track. Unscrewing it will not help.

Pop rivet tools are pretty cheap. Look around for another manufacturer. I have an older Marson tool with the same problem but I found a Craftsman with a longer and skinnier nose at Sears.

Yea thats a bummer. I just redid some cleats as well with my smaller gun ,but its a pain to pop compared to my good gun. Shame I cant find a different nose piece.I have to redo my jib tracks on my 18.
I thought Jeremy from Surf City posted something about this, but I cannot find it.

Murray's used to have them in stock. They may still have some, but not in their catalog-haven't checked. Murray's had an extended tip for the Big M. I'm not sure if they had one for the Big D. I have both guns, but only use the Big D for putting 1/4" rivets in wallowed out, or corroded 3/16" holes-like on corner castings. The extended tip stays on the Big M all the time.

I think it would be possible to epoxy an extended tip on a regular tip, if you can't buy one ready-made.

The Big M is not made anymore. Someone not careful could screw something up with it, or catch a finger I guess. It's like a big accordion of levers that lets you put in a long rivet with one push. I like it a lot, but I can see where it could be a liability for the company.

Before I had these guns I also used stacks of washers in traveler tracks, but there is no comparison to using an extended tip.

Thank you. I just saw in there online catalog they do sell an extended nose piece. I will have to check with them monday to see if it will work on my gun.

It's just like the old Big M that I have. I expect that tip has a good chance of fitting.
