Hi All,

Origninally posted this over in the repair forum..thought I'd try here too.

I'm helping a friend repair his Hobie 16, and I have a question about mounting the baseplate / pad for the swiveling mainsheet cam cleat.

I didn't have access to a pnematic rivet tool, so I used a hand rivet tool with a 3/16 aluminum rivet. It seemed to work just fine, the plate is mounted and seems sturdy. My question is this...are we going to have a probelm using the aluminum rivet vs a stainless steel one? I'm more concerned with structural integrity...I don't mind replacing the aluminum rivet every season or so due to corrosion...I just don't want it to snap in a day or so when I get it on the water...

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Sincerely,

Brian Cochran

I'm not sure how strong the Aluminum rivets are going to be, You can use screws instead of rivets if these do not hold up for you.

Thanks,

Thanks for your reply...

I dunno either...it FEELS like a solid mount now, but I guess time will tell. I can eventually use a SS rivet, but that will take me some time to get the rivet and get the boat to a place where they can drive it.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Again, thanks for your response.

Brian
