... and if I got new battens should I go with the hobie ones again (of course) or the new style foam cored ones?

this would be on an old mainsail ('83 I think... blue Hawaii style)... the main is in good shape.

thx, -Rob

I think battens are a lot more forgiving than the old Main. Foam core/tapered might give you better performance, but if they're not broken, you're old battens should be good.

yeah, I don't know.. the main is pretty good, not new for sure... and a new one would be biggest bang for the buck I think.... but somewhere along the way I got the idea that old battens got stiff as they age... and there may be some benefit is newer ones...

If you really think they got stiffer with age (which would surprise me), you could sand a little off and make them more flexible. If you sand them too thin and they break, then you can buy new ones.

Hoping to, Rob. Barbie and I are planning on it right now. Barbie is back in school right now but hopes to play hooky for the week.

How about you?

Wished we could have made MWE. (School again). You guys put on great regattas!

For an all around great boat, you just can't beat the 18 :)

Hope to see you in Texas.

Jim
