Polishing compound and wax is likely the best.

3m Perfectit III Heavy Cut and a good buffer is the trick. Then wax! You'll be amazed!

Do what you will to the decks but wax on the hulls will slooow yoouuu dooowwnn!

Clean the hulls however and use a rouge to finish it off.

Softscrub with bleach will keep the road grime off between major refinishings and not leave scratches.

This has me interested. I just bought my H18 this summer and will need to clean it up at the end of the season (the previous owner was great and had it cleaned when I picked it up). I had thought wax would be good, but now you have me thinking twice. What is the reason wax will slow you down.

I figure I need to get something on there as the water in the river up here seems to turn the white hull yellowish in places pretty quick. So I want to find a way to remove the yellow and at least slow doen the return of the yellow.

A word of warning: If you have colored hulls DO NOT use bleach, softscrub with bleach or anything containing bleach. I used it on my yellow colored hulls and I have not been able to get them as shiney as they were before.

Ok, I read the LONG thread regarding how to make faded / oxidized hulls shiny again. I took the plunge and ordered the $75.00 Vertglas restoration kit. I am very pleased with the results. My white hulls went from absolutely NO shine or gloss to like new shine. You can see reflections in the hulls -- see for yourself. Its easy to tell which pics are before and which are after.

The process was fun, satisfying and took about six hours. The hulls look like new. I have no idea if the hulls are faster or slower -- I am the limiting factor as far as speed goes. But boy the boat looks 25 years newer.

I posted the before and after pics at this link. Form your own conclusions.

Guys:

Before you spend $75, try some $1 Bon Ami. My 17 had been outside for 3 years of green slime and dirt. The Bon Ani made it look like new. Andd if you make a paste and let sit for about 15 min it will get rust stains out too.
