Hey mate. The tubes go right down through the scuppers and after reading Alan's comment, I did think that maybe some additional loading could be added at to the scupper side walls so I added some PVC pipe to strengthen and distribute any extra loading. The tube frame is also supported by the crossbar and the hull. It rests on that lateral hull rib that the water bottle is moulded into, which acts as the fulcrum. The load on the crossbar is sideways trying to push the crossbar forward, and the load on the scuppers is on the sidewalls trying to push the scuppers back. If the tube didn't go into the scuppers, the seat would fall forward under load.

I'm yet to give it a decent run. In fact it's out of action waiting for new bits but new Akas are arriving tomorrow so I should be back on the water at the weekend.

Hey Chris. Nothing major. Just wasn’t happy with the dissimilar metal rivet corrosion issue so we came to an agreement. Everyone’s happy.

Just thinking - if you are keeping the old akas and you have a pipe bender, you might like to try my mod of raising the amas about 6".

It's old news now mate. Anyway, it's academic if you don't have a spare set of akas.

Don't want to hijack your thread, but the story of you trading up your akas sounds interesting in its own right.

Hi Russ.
How is your seat mod holding up after a couple of years use?
Cheers,
Brian

which kind of seat is it? I read the previous posts about the Attwood contour seat but I think that with that model they didnt need to do something like this.
Unfortunately in Europe the attwood seats are not sold or they cost double.
I also cannot use the original hobie seat in my 2011 model. moreover the pegs dont work. they improved them in 2012.
i am going to make a wooden thing to hold my back but I would really prefer a solution like this.

Hey ya fellas. Sorry for the delay in replying. Yeah, the seat mod has been a set and forget. It's 10 times more comfy than the original. No wet arse. I don't take it off the boat, it stays on while transporting. I possibly would 'UP' the tube size so that it doesn't bend. The cantilever part of the design doesn't really work so I just have a small piece of pool noodle under the front to prop it up a bit and it's as good as gold. I'll have to get back to you about the brand. I'm at work at the moment. When I get home I'll have a look. Cheers.

Slaughter, I'm fighting the lower back pain as well as wet butt with my AI, too. Your seat mod is very interesting and has my curiosity for sure.

I like to turn around in my AI and be able to dig around in the tank well to store fish in my soft sided cooler. How does this seat you have help or hinder this process, or do you not ever need to turn around?

The other option I've pondered is do you ever have the need to lean back to relax during sailing or just while parked on the water? It doesn't look like the seat back leans back at all. Pretty much a fixed position seat. Just curious.

Hi Insayn. No the seat doesn't swivel or tilt. I can lay down though. If I put my bum on the hatch, legs up on the crossbar, the front of the the seat supports my back while my head rests on the top of the seat back. Pretty comfortable in fact. No for an extended time but still good for a temporary change of position. Best of luck with it.

Sorry Terry. Not taking any orders. Took too many hours for me to make up. But, because we are Hobie mates, feel free to pinch the design though.
