Here at Fleet 297 we are lucky enough to be able to take advantage of a sailing club which is running 8 races over the course of the summer.

We are also hosting two HCANA points regatta's, The last of which is the Frayed Knot at the close of our season. And the Point for Points is NEXT WEEK!!! :)

The idea is a Fleet Champion series.

So far I figure we give two or three throwout races. With one of them bonus throwout if you volunteer and work Race committee one of the weekends.. (or three throwouts... you lose your worst two... and then your best if you don't work RC and three worst if you do work RC..... as one of the worst would be the RC weekend.... Or something like that..)

We would like the scoring system to favor participation.

The couple 18's and the 17's we have in the fleet may get portsmouth'ed?

The Frayed Knot Regatta scores double.

We expect to have 5-8 boats or more actively engaged..

Any suggestions or systems that have worked great for your fleets?

Start with the series scoring system in the Racing Rules of Sailing - Rule A9. It provides different scoring for DNS, DNF, RET and DSQ.

Then you can have as many throwouts as you want.

Very easy to set up in SailWave.

We use a high point system where a first equals the # of boats in the race. This weights the larger races. You recieve a first place finish for your PRO service. You are allowed 1 time as the PRO.

You can check it out at http://www.fleet204.com/Fleetrace2012.asp

We also halve your score if you singlehand.

That looks like a nice active fleet!!! My wife is Originally from Corinth near Glens Falls/Saratoga... Should we ever head up that way again I will have to look ya'll up!

If we have any singlehand boats we will probably just weight them down..

I notice you have a lot of what appear to be tied or duplicate position scoring on the board... Like on the second race tom and susan both netted seven points... I see this a couple places on the scoreboard?????

I have been playing a bit in my new fresh download of sailwave and I think I know how I want to this...

That is some pretty powerful free software. Almost to many features for a knothead like me...

@ronholm-Those places are the times where someone has been the RC. You will notice that they are mostly the # of boats in the race. In our official file we have color coded cells to show that.

We also always score the # of staters and if there are dropouts all DNF's & DFL's will get the same # of points.

We try to be liberal in the scoring system to encourage participation.

We are a VERY active fleet. We had 5 boats at MWE in Mississsippi (1400 mi away) Our Thursday night series is fun and also very competetive!!

If you are ever in the area definately look us up. We will try to get you a boat or get you on a boat.

We try to avoid putting an unsafe amount of extra ballast on a boat. Class rule state 50lbs is max

A simple low scoring system should work just fine. You can also go for a high scoring system and Bonus scoring is a complete NO!

Why don't you like bonus scoring for the big event?
