PA 12 fishfinder battery installation

I just got the fishfinder battery kit for the back hatch or sail post on the PA12. It came with no instructions. Anyone have any info? Also which is best, in back hatch or inside hull by sail post.

Assuming your talking about the new hobie battery holder. I have mine in the rear hatch, easy to reach and pull out to charge. I also leave the rear hatch open to air the insides out after each trip. For me it's a one step idea, leave open hatch and charge battery.

I tried the battery in the hull idea and found the amount of moisture inside the hull just corrodes the terminals to quick.

The installation is very simple as there are only 2 wires...red = + 12 volt, black = -12 volt lead.
You should add a waterproof, in-line fuse holder to the red wire (series connected) and install a fuse amperage value based on your fish finder instructions.....maybe 3 amp size???

I used a 1" wide tape measure to fish the long wires from the battery to your fish finder leads inside the hull....connect the red to red and black to black wires from the fish finder to the battery leads.....hook up the transducer and you are good to go.
The battery charged will only plug in one way as it's keyed.....same as the plug on the 2 wires to the battery plug/connector.

My plan is to never maneuver such as to cause a capsize in the calm waters I fish. Plan B is if I sense danger of flipping, I eject my body into the water before the disaster occurs. And if both these plans do fail me, the loss of a $30 battery will be the least of my worries.

My battery was installed in the forward hatch. Now I can't use the hatch liner. (Hobie outback) . Any other options out there?

If your battery is the 9 SH SLA, then it fits the Hobie 12 volt battery holder, P/N 72025007...cost about $17.00.

This battery holder will clamp on to the back side, of the black plastic sail mast tube. Your battery will be clear of the hatch liner and problem is solved.

Rear hatch or on the backside of the sail mast receiver should work for you, even with the hatch liner.
