I'm going to be installing a Cheata Motor Mount on my Getaway.

I'm consdering mounting it to one side of the crossbar vs in the middle.

My Hobie 21 mount is mounted oft center and it seems to help with access to starting and running the motor since the main block lines are not in the way.

Has anyone done this on the Getaway? What do you think?

Is it a hassle to have it mounted in the middle? Does the main block and lines get in the way of the motor? My motor does not lock in place so I need to sit near it and adjust it when it's running.

Thanks, Doug

I just installed a Cheata mount with a Minn Kota 30 electric motor, but I centered it (almost). I toyed with the idea of setting it close to one hull to facilitate control of the motor, but thought the offset would make the boat harder to steer. That is the main thing I would worry about with a side mount.

The main sheet and traveler don't interfere. The whole thing works beautifully. I had to tweak the mount to make it work right (see the other recent thread on Cheata mount).

I have my Cheata offset to port about 6 inches and have absolutely no troubles with steerage or access. I have to motor a mile from one launch site so if I had steerage issues I would have noticed by now. 2003-4 model.

Can someone post some pictures of their cheeta mount with the motor attached? I'm interested to see how it looks when the motor is out of the water.

Also, how does the mount lock into place? I will be ordering my new getaway pretty soon and I'm thinking of having the dealer install the mount and motor for me. He recommended a 3.5hp Nissan motor, but I just want to see how ugly it is sticking out of the water.... :?
