We have been using Hobie Mirage kayaks for a long time, and just love them. We have now owned 7 Hobie kayaks over the years and just love them, they are perfect for the people like us that just love to go out and enjoy the water. One of our favorite pastimes on our Hobie kayaks is kayak sailing. It is very easy and helps extend your comfortable range considerably. All of our kayaks have had the sail kit, and we never go out without the sail kit rolled up and strapped to the side of the kayak, just in case we get an opportunity to sail.
One thing that the standard sail kit always lacked was a roto-furling option for their standard sail. Most of us just rigged up something on our own made from a piece of PVC tubing. In my opinion kayak sailing is a total pain without the furling kit, especially in higher wind conditions, where with the furler you can partially furl the sail (it's much harder to get tipped over with a partially furled sail), also if it gets too windy to sail you just furl the sail completely and continue on pedaling.

I noticed a posting on Hobies Island Club facebook page this morning, that is very good news.

Hobie now sells a furling kit to go along with their fantastic kayak sail kit, according to the article it is available at dealers now.

Here is the pic they had posted:

Nice job Hobie.

It looks like you can still carry a paddle on the right side without interfering with the furling line, right? Bob

Yeah Bob,
The furling lines run right along the top of the gunnel and offer no interference with the paddle. Even though I have the older model Oasis the installation goes really fast (takes about 15 minutes) as you only need to measure and drill 2 holes. 8)

Have to agree with you sailing hobies is so much fun and you can get into so many great spots that are too shallow for larger boats
Is the sail furler available in Australia yet ?
What are you paying for them in the US ?
could you post a close up of the furler?
Thanks so much
