I have found a significant amount of water any time I open the drain after sailings. Only one hull is affected: the other is so tight that actually releases gas when I open the drain. In order to understand from where the hull takes water, i filled the hull with water so to spot leakages. Water only has come out from the hole that is almost on top of the hull I guess for security reason.

Any hint ?

Thanks

Is can damage a hull to fill it with water. That is a HUGE load and weight, so not advised to find leaks.

Best leak detection is done using a small amount of air pressure in the hull and soapy water. Bubbles will form where the air escapes.

Check crossbar connections, tramp tracks, gudgeons, drain plugs... keel wear or puncture?

Thank you
I have also learned that even the other hull may have problem since when I open the drain plug hear a puff of air. So http://www.hobiecat.com/articles/hull-l ... ection,88/ says that it means the hull is not breathing causing longterm structural problem. It does not say though what can I do to correct it. Any hint ?

Thank you again

Drilling a small breather hole on the aft side of the froward crossbar... inboard. A very small hole is all you need.

For a Getaway though, not a big deal. Pressure changes in hulls is worse for fiberglass hulls.

Got you.
When I find the leak in the hull how should I repair it ? I understand is not as simple as with the fiberglass hobies...

Depends on where it is. Epoxy can fill a void. You can weld (yes you can weld cross-link) for minor hole filling.

Instead of drilling "breather" holes in the hulls I recommend simply unscrewing the ports at the bottom of the storage compartments during hot weather. I close them when I go sailing and open them afterward. Keeps pressure from building up in hot weather without having to drill holes.

See my post on water in the hull-2014. In my case it was a drain tube that fell of the elbow under the cooler box.
Hope you found your leak.
