After seeing other AI mods. I decided to do much the same as many island owners have done. My skipper seat has a fixed seat base and a removable back. This way I was able to redesign the base to fit more inside the hull, while keeping it out of the water in the seat area. The backrest is adjustable.

Snooze mode when the fish aren't biting.

More please.
How's the base attached?
What the heck is that post and slotted deal that is holding up the back?

I have been toying with a skipper seat conversion, but haven't found the right one...maybe this is it....

Very nice! I am going to have to figure out how to do something like this because I'm sick and tired of sitting so low (even with waterproof cushions) and having a wet butt and sore back.

The base is bolted to the yak. I attached shaped pieces under to suit the shape of the seat well. The adjustable post holding the back up is part of a bass guitar stand with a railblaza G clamp attached.

That's a work of art Hogman. Well executed. Is it easily removable, if you need to go back to kayak mode ? With the centre of gravity of using the skipper seat being higher, I've found that I need to go back to the original Hobie seat when I just want to go for a paddle.

Awesome. Practically a Barcalounger. Just need to add the footrests and remote control!

Speaking of which, can you still reach the tiller ok without leaning?

Thanks. I can use wing nuts on the base and the back so they are quickly removed, however I always go out with at least one outrigger.

Thanks. Yes the tiller is still within easy reach.

I've had mine viewtopic.php?f=69&t=48290&hilit=skipper on the AI for a few months now and wouldn't go back. The positives certainly outway the negatives.
