Well.. Win the thread at least

Ya know.. this is the show where everything's made up and the points don't matter

Looking for Top speed and highest average speed.

Needs to be a 'class legal' boat so we are on a level playing field.. The exception here is crew weight.. Carry as little or as much as you need to generate the big numbers...

Average speed should be your speed covering a distance of at least 1 mile. (5280 feet)

My first attempt..

This was on my 2005 H16.. I was sailing Solo.. I weigh 206lbs at last check. The GPS unit I am using is a app on my Android phone.. It has been provably accurate against other GPS units in my unscientific testing.. I keep it secure in a waterproof container tied to my center tramp lacing..

Recorded August 4th, Clinton Lake, Lawrence KS.

WIND (MPH)
HIGHEST WIND SPEED 17 HIGHEST WIND DIRECTION N (360)
HIGHEST GUST SPEED 23 HIGHEST GUST DIRECTION N (10)
AVERAGE WIND SPEED 7.0

(if anyone knows a better way to find wind history I am all ears... This is from NOAA. and I don't think tells the best story.. I am sure NOAA has more complete info.. I just don't know where to look)

Cool idea, I'll be sure to log a few tacks the next time it's really blowing.

I don't have pictures of the gps but my max speed was 19.7 knots with a crew weight of about 240lbs and a boat with hull weight of 87 and 103. My highest average (well the only one I can remember) was an average of 27+ nautical miles of 9.8 knots with 3 capsizes!

New top speed... I couldn't keep the average up for long because the lulls were huge.. But there were some nice long puffs coming down the lake. I sailed for a good 6 hours.. but never could get a good clean pass where I could hold the average speed very high.. There was one nice stretch in there... but I forgot to snap the screen until long after the average speed I am sure had fallen way off.. I regularly saw tops speeds of 19mph plus though... :)

Again.. Sailing Solo about 205lbs I am sure the top speed came in on a nice broad reach.. I was practically standing on the rudder casting trying to keep the shiny side down.. What a BLAST!!!!!

I have the Ulysse one loaded up also.. I don't notice any difference between them testing them against others in the car.. I have been sticking with the same one on the boat just because..

Oh.. and for those that don't know.. Hold the power button and push the home key to snap screenshots..

This is the highest speed I have recorded during a race with my wife. Our combined weight is around 200kg so pretty heavy.

At about 1:03 we had a nice pitchpole.....

During the Banderas Bay Regatta ... (racing handicap against a F-31 and a F-9R so GPS is ok)

Image

Prostart gives max 10sec avg and max speed.

We came second by 2:30 on corrected time. We know where we screwed the pooch so should be better tomorrow!
