I am offering up for sale a previously unused, never installed Hobie 16 main sail. It is a 2004 "Seaside" pattern, #156 on the sail color guide. This sail never had numbers installed... ready for your custom numbers. Sail also has factory reef points installed. Was hanging on to them for my next H16, but upsized to an H18 instead. I have yet to set a price at this time, so make me an offer.

Thanks for looking. Reply or PM for more info or offers.

(Does not include any battens)

I bet you could get close to $1000 for it. Just off the price of new mains and the price of sails on eBay. Good luck!

Those sails look like they are older than 2004. The Hobie Cat Sails/Coast Catamaran label went away sometime in the late '80s, maybe early '90s. As did reef points and plastic head plates. The clew and tack plates were also replaced by grommets by the 2000's and the luff and foot bolt ropes were changed from one continuous bolt rope to two separate bolt ropes. Still looks like a nice clean sail though.

The sail in the photos is not from 2004.

The details in the sail (sailmaker's patch, corner plates, reef points) place it in the late '70s / early '80s.

While the colors are in the same basic pattern as "Seaside", the sailcloth colors are what was used in the Cat Fever sails of the same time period, not what used in the 2000s.

What you have here is a 28 year old, custom color pattern sail.

A close look at the sailmaker's patch confirms that:

16 - Hobie 16

DB-R-O is the color pattern (Dark/Double Blue-Red-Orange) - but they got that wrong (it's Blue-Gold-Orange-Red). It's not that uncommon that the sail color was mis-marked.

86 - year of manufacture
5-9 - month/day of manufacture

Re:2480 - probably a purchase/sales order number

But what srm is true - it's still a very clean sail.

Thanks srm and Mbounds for the extensive insight on the sail; I do appreciate it. Quite remarkable I found it in the condition it's in just a couple years ago.

Elkyjason, While I wish your estimate were true I'm a realist and I'm not expecting that $.

So there you have it, 28 yr old custom color sail very similar to "seaside" pattern in what I would describe as "like new" condition. Unsure of it's worth... make me an offer.

I'll offer you $350. I'm looking for a sail with some orange in it but, at 28, it's only four years newer than the one I'm replacing. Plus you don't have the matching jib and it is unlikely I will ever find one.

I'll keep your offer in mind. Thanks.
