Getting out of a breakwater or cove.

Hi from Australia, where I'd like to go sailing is protected by a breakwater from the boat ramp, what's a few ways to get out of there or back in if the wind is a head wind? All I can think of is paddles or ask some one to tow me if and ones around? Where do i store the paddles? Do I leave the main down whilst paddling?

There are some very small electric outboards suitable to a beach cat.

You don't mention what your boat is but others will be along who can better suggest a make and model if you share what you have.

Don't you carry a paddle anyway? I use a plastic paddle that will bend a little and weave the handle through the center tramp lacing to keep it handy but out of the way. That is on an H-16.

I bungee 2 oars to the front cross bar, works well.

Sounds like a good idea with storing a paddle on board underneath perhaps. I'll take one with me next time and see how much progress I make with the paddle alone.

Do you leave the main up or down whilst leaving or returning thru the breakwater?

I had that problem with my previous Hobies and other sailboats. When I had a Thistle, I had a small electric outboard to get in and out of a breakwater. So when it was time to get my dream boat, I put a Torqeedo electric outboard on my Hobie. Does the job nicely.
I wish Hobie would adapt their Mirage drive to the sailboats, so we could pedal in and out!

Regarding paddle I strap an extendable paddle to the tramp.

A paddle is the cheap easy proven way to move a 16 great for current or head winds however my 21SE not so much
