Combining batteries in series and parallel is no different than what EV's and hybrids have installed.....except the battery pack is around 300 V DC to reduce the current flow.

Check out this thread on another forum.

No expert, but consider adding a control board to prevent deep discharge & excess current draw & provide balanced charging/discharging. Don't forget a good wateproof box!

Have you done a quick weight calc to see if all those AA cells are still significantly lighter than an AGM batt of equal specs?
