The website and registration for Spring Fever is now up. As the premier regatta in the Southeast, you want to make sure you have this one on your calendar.

http://www.twinhulls.com/springfever2014/

Quote:
As many of you know, it takes a tremendous effort and substantial funds to put on the type of regatta you've come to expect when you attend Spring Fever each year.

I am sorry to inform you that unless we have received 50 preregistered boats by midnight, Monday, March 24, we cannot afford to hold this regatta and the great times we've all looked forward to all these years will have ended.

There are far too many of you to thank individually for all that you contributed to the success of this regatta over the last sixteen years but please accept this sincere thank you from Nigel and myself for all your efforts.

Notice of Cancellation, if necessary, will be posted on the website at: http://TwinHulls.com/springfever2014/ on Tuesday, March 25th.

It is our intent to keep the website up with all of the previous years photos for at least a year. Come visit often.

......Mr.Ernie
X-Spring Fever Coordinator

Can't say i am surprised by a lack of attendance to an event like this. Mixed fleet handicap racing is a joke at best. When you are openly against one design fleets people like me aren't interested in attending.

At most EMSA events, 5 like boats gets you a fleet. If you want a fleet, have 4 friends sign up with you. IIRC that last year, we only had 4-5 boats in the open class. Your not being handicap scored against 50 different boats.

Currently only One more Hobie 16 is needed for an H16 fleet.

Just having a fleet doesn't ensure quality one design racing. What are you going to do for boats grossly out of class rules? There is nothing more frustrating than being in a drifter with a single handed boat blowing past you knowing that the Committee is using some horrible rule of thumb "handicap" to make it somehow "fair".

This being a Hobie Cat forum and all. I've found that the only regattas worth traveling any distance to, usually are some sort of HCANA endorsed event.

In the past, I believe that a solo 16 was in the open class and was not scored against the (mostly) one design 16 fleet.

I have confirmed that any group of 5 boats constitutes a class and will be scored together at spring fever.

We may feel very differently about one design versus open classes. I like to support multi-hull racing in general. It's my opinion that if we allow the mixed fleet regattas to die, the major OD events will follow. That's just my opinion though.

I thoroughly enjoy last years event especially seeing all the different catamarans out there. I crewed on my buddies new to him 21SE and we just attended but did not race. Watching these new boats sail was worth the trip. The people hosting the event did a great job.

The sailors were first class and so was the event.

Welcoming all cat sailors and their boat to join is my personal prefer.

Remember that we all just want to have a good time................ :D

If the HCANA required 50 boats at every event, we wouldn't have any events.

I think they set the bar too high for themselves. If you need 50 boats to break even - you need a different business model.
