We arrived at Balicasag Island (a dive resort) not far from Bohol and we checked in and advised the security that we are having dinner on a friends yacht and will be coming back after dark to stay in our room. Unfortunately (as often happens in the Philippines) no one passed on this message and as we approached the resort all hell broke loose with lights flashing, shouting, then the shot (hopefully over our heads but they are notoriously bad shots anyway)
. As we couldn't get our peaceful intentions across we made a b line back to our fiends yacht, had a calming glass of wine (or two) and stayed the night. We went back to the resort in the morning and a very apologetic reception staff member said " oh yes the navy patrols the area after dark to stop poachers and just in case the terrorists from the Sulu Archipelago hits the island for kidnappings". A an exciting experience, one that I can't get to angry about because they are just doing their job. I would have thought when I shone our torch on our sail that they would have got the message though. Not sure how many terrorists or poachers use a Hobie
