It's nice to see people using a flatbed trailer for their needs, and different ways to renovate them.

After getting inspiration from Sun-E, I made a beach cart for my TI. I already had an extra cradle because I set up my trailer with three (stole that idea from Sun-E as well). About the only other parts I had to purchase were the Wheelez wheels, axle, and aluminum channel. These items cost me about $325. To hold the axle I glued a section of 1" PVC into a section of 1-1/4". I then slid the axle sections into this and bolted through the channel, PVC, and axle with one of the cradle bolts and the eyelet strap bolt. I had to install a little duct tape around the outside to make it fit snug inside the channel. For the fore and aft supports I used 4 - 12" Pro Solar roof jacks http://prosolar.com/prosolar-new/pages/fastjack-line_fastjack-commercial.htm. These usually cost about $18 each but I had them leftover from one of my solar thermal installations. Since these were mounted lower than Sun-E's design (into the channel) I used a section of extra thick pool noodle I pilfered from my son. I've only used it a few times but it seems to work great. I was afraid I was going to have to get a bigger diameter eyelet as the ones I used were on 1/4". So far they seem to be working fine. Thanks Sun-E for the parts and assistance.

Hello everyone,
After a while of getting great ideas from so many of the great folks on this forum, completing some modifications to the TI's trailer, and cannibalizing my trailex boat dolly for parts I would like to share my TI trailer's cradle cart project. I have used this cradle cart a couple times this year, and it was the easiest way of transporting a TI across soft sand so far. Thanks Sun-e-sailor and many of the others for being the pioneers for ideas like these.

Do to the cost of purchasing a Trailex Boat dolly ($500+) a while back before the creation of the Appelcart and Hobie's TI cart I could not afford to purchase anything else, nor did I think anyone would be interested in purchasing the boat dolly any time soon if I decided to sell it, so I took apart the dolly and made it a part of the Trailex trailer. The dolly had the same fastener channels found on the Trailex trailer, so merging the two was not too bad.

This is a pic of the cart showing the axle assembly with the fastener channels running the width of the cart.

This is how the axle and tie down was secured, and what the channels look like close up.

There are wheel bearings installed to reduce friction between the PVC rims and aluminum axle shafts that run through the rims. The PVC caps shown are just used to protect the grease from getting beach sand/dirt.

These knobs, spacers, and washers are used to secure the cart to the trailer.

Here is a view of what the cart and trailer look like when apart.

This pic shows the two fasteners on the cart that go through the two holes in the trailer bracket to get secured.

How the knob gets secured. The knob is turned counterclockwise (CCW) after the cotterpin is installed. When the knob is turned CCW this applies tension to the cotterpin because the clevis pin wants to get pulled through by the stainless steel cable that secures it to the trailer chassis.

Take care and thanks for the inspiration. :)

pinoyghost18,
Your most welcome and nice work.
You've shown us that there's more than one way to peel an apple... and that one can also make their cart serve two purposes; first as the forward support while your TI is on the trailer and second, as the cart that transports your boat over sand. I think this idea as an accessory to one's trailer is the way to go.
It's not quite the Appel Cart... but l'll call it a Granny Smith  .
