I get all the other modifications he mentions in his for sale ad, but how on earth did he manage to increase the freeboard?

He basically covered everything with 1"- or 2"-thick closed cell foam and glued it on with a contact glue. It makes his AI very comfortable for a tough 4-5 day, 50-60 mi/day camping trip.
