Thanks for the link to that video Coachstevo. It answers a few more questions.
So here's what we know so far:
-same length 16' hull but re shaped, added volume/more freeboard for a drier ride. Forward raked bow.
-longer mast
-larger sail, 3 battens with higher scallop cut for better headroom. Area =???
-wider (longer aka???)
-longer, 12' re shaped AMA. Forward raked bow. Multiple contours???
-inbuilt daggerboard
-double AMA bungees
-repositioned tiller. Sits flat, moves through horizontal arc.
-redesigned seat well
-injection moulded plastic Vantage mesh seat with multiple adjustments
-remote cable operated seat drain scuppers with Venturi
-Lowrance ready system.

Can't see what has changed with the water funnelling handles but I'm guessing they are gone as well?

Very nice work Hobie! You've listened and made some great improvements. 8)

Looking forward to seeing what has changed on the TI.
Now please give one to Roadrunner ASAP for a review!

In the last video I posted didn't the designer say, " we added a bit more length" ?
Thought he was referring to the hull....

Either way pretty impressive list of upgrades! I basically get everything on my wish list except a 50% price drop...lol

We'll it looks like I will be able to pick up a older TI for cheap as everyone bails for the new seat! If I didn't just get a 14' Outfitter ...... Doh!

This new design looks great and assuming the changes are carried over to the TI as well then I imagine quite a few current TI owners may look to upgrade creating a good opportunity for either AI owners to upgrade to a used TI more economically and/or more newbies to be able to get aboard an island. I believe the photo exaggerated the reverse slope of the amas, due to "pin-cushioning" distortion of the image (which can be seen with the concave bottom of the ama).

Here is the image with the pin-cushioning removed. I believe the reverse slope is more subtle

What are we going to do here, these things look pretty darn compelling.

Hogman, according to Jason in the video, it is longer.

Tony, Fusion is correct - kayaks outsell kayaks by a massive magnitude. Larger cats are no where near as popular as they once were. Kayaks are on the up, however, and have been for well over a decade. And you're wrong about distortion in the photo to. The hull and amas are definitely forward raked. Not only does the video show this, it is also what I have been informed by someone that knows more about the redesign than any of us here speculating.

Coachstevo,
The interview is confusing. One minute he says it's a 16' kayak and then he says they've added more length.
Maybe it's now a 16' + ?" kayak. :?

Tony,
You could be right re the pic distortion exaggeration, though in the video clip the bow rakes do look different to what we have now:

Ha Ha, the front looks fat now - a bit like a big Revo... :-)

The new pew looks nifty, but not as comfy for my skinny bum as a nice, padded skipper seat.

Is that 'slope' on the front of the hull (and amas) 'forward' raked?

I'd call that 'backwards' - the front looks like it's leaning back. Maybe the terminology is different for boats?

It looks like it'd have to be heavier than the current A.I., which is a deal-breaker for me. My 2012 A.I. is
on the limit (actually, if I'm honest it's OVER the limit) of what I can comfortably handle out of the water.

I wonder if it'd be possible to whack the longer amas and new mast/sail on a current A.I.? :-)

Mike.

I was a bit confused too with the rake forward term but if you go from the top of the hull the rake looks to be forward to the bottom of the hull at the bow.
"Inverted/reversed bow" are other terms that could be used I suppose?
This is an example of an inverted or reversed bow:

Josh I said the angle was more subtle than shown in the distorted image, and the other photos confirm this.

While I would love to get a new one, I have improved my 2012 TI enough to keep me happy for now. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!.

Can't be much longer. He still calls it a 16 ft kayak.

With Hobie length might be a loose term since the H16 is 16'7" long, it appears it's a 16 ft boat until we get over 16' 11" give or take ( LOL).

Actually that bow angled forward (backwards) is interesting. As we all know water can't be compressed, so it appears what this bow does is lift the water to split it to make way for the boat to go thru, then lets gravity work to let the water land somewhere out of the way, probably takes much less energy to propel the boat. I'm sure this feature really pee'ed off the moldmakers ( I'm a moldmaker), hope it's worth the effort.
That's what we call an undercut in molds, as the plastic cools it shrinks, the shrink factor for this material is around .020" per inch so the mold is over 3 1/2 inches longer than the finished boat, as the molded part cools down in the mold it shrinks, this means they can undercut the front of the bow somewhere between 1" and 1 1/2" inches and the boat will still come out of the mold. Hats off to Hobie, they really know their stuff. (can't help myself I look for crap like that, it's the business I'm in).

Video of the new AI at OR...more questions answered.

I was impressed with the Hobie product designer Jason's reasoning for the AI improvements - more power. :o

Could the improvements to the AI carry over to the TI? As a future TI owner I am holding my breath in anticipation. Especially if the TI improvements help for better sailing in light winds which I expect on my local lakes. :D

Me too!
