Are there wing seats available for the 20, or is it possible to customize wings from another model to fit? I know it would not be legal for racing, but I am looking to add a bit more comfort and passenger room for cruising around the bay.

Any info or ideas would be appreciated.

Get a 21. You don't want to put wings on your 20. Like putting a mustache on the Mona Lisa.

A MAST BOB????? Are you (censored) kidding?? We'll have to rename the boat from a Miracle 20 to a Wave XL.

Wing seats? There is no set that fits the Hobie 20. I am unaware of any from Europe that would fit right out of the box. I don't know anything about how their wings fit their boats over there.

Dare to be stupid!

Here's a shot of the Wave XL in action.

http://www.fleet514.com/Photos/pinata%2 ... age148.htm

This is the H19 configuration. We forgot the jib
As we alternated between feeling sorry for ourselves and bickering one of the race officials helped us find a H18 jib. Thanks Barb!

The crux of the issue is high consequence low probably events like turtling and getting caught under the trampoline. Why take the risk? Certainly there is a performance penalty. That penalty is minimal IMHO.

H18 wings fit with a few modifications. They install on the 18 in front of each beam; on the 20 they have to fit in between the beams, so the mounting "ear" on the bottom leg of the front wing post has to be turned around 180 degrees. A few washers and they fit very nicely. Need to cut a slot in the tramp to line the leg up with the front beam, and drill a hole in the beam for a long bolt. On the back beam, replace the forward "saddle" bolt with a longer one, and the wing fits right on! The support leg goes right down on top of the top beam bolt like it was designed for it! Little tough getting the longer bolts through the holes, and holding them tight while you bolt them up (I made a long flexible socket extension). The only really tricky part is the front support legs. I made up a piece of aluminum angle to mount the leg to the deck edge, and had to cut and move the support leg to hit this. The angle is bolted to the hull side.

Before you yell at me, I did this on a 20 that had been hit by a car; totalled by the insurance company and I bought it back. Figure the extensive repairs removed it from race status anyway. Also already had a (very tired) H18 Magnum that doanted its wings before being sold cheap. Been going strong for three years now as a play boat. Awesome! MUCH nicer to sail than the old 18, and carries weight better (wave smashing with 5 adults in 15+, for example). Kids love the wings, although you can't dip them as low as an 18. Even my 70+ mother can enjoy a sail in moderate winds. Single-handing off the wings is a thrill, too. Couple of pics here http://www.thebeachcats.com/modules.php ... php&page=2

I think you meant to say that on H18's, the wings mount in between the cross bars, and on H20's, they mount in front. No matter, as long as it fits.

Anyways, BSquared, great shots of your modified H20. Looks great. Please contact me off line at lunnjohn at magma dot ca. I have not been able to mount either my Magnums or my SX18 wings on my H18, and I would appreciate your input. Adrio, (also from Ottawa,) is a P.Eng, and he has given me the best advice so far, but the more advice I can get the better.

Mmmm, maybe I should buy a H20 and put the wings on that?
Will I remain married? Not sure, back to the H18.

cheers

Two more shots on the "Beachcats" Yahoo group, under album "cbolton". Not a bolt it up and go installation, but less than two weekends work.
