Just saw this on EBay. I don't know if it's an earlier version, or a knock-off.

The RAVE is not a Hobie product.

TEHY RAVE is out of production from the original manufacturer (Wind Rider??).

I know of one Trifoiler owner that had a trifoiler and later sold it and got a RAVE whch he hated and and now owns a Trifoiler again.

The RAVE is not as fast as the Trifoiler. Also, some users converted their RAVE foil (sensor) controls to manual joystick control. Perhpas the manual joystick worked better than the inferior sensor system that the RAVE used.

Correction, the RAVE, made by WindRider looks like it is either back or still in production. I actually think production stopped for a while due to instability or change in ownership in the campany but RAVE stock at dealers never ran out.

specs here

http://www.windrider.com/rave.shtml

Manufacturer claims boat foils at 1.75x windspeed.

Mfg. claims liftoff at 7-8 knots of wind with 30 - 50 kg payload (the skipper). Sort of rules me out lifitng off at 8 knots in a RAVE.
I lift off at 10 to 11 knots wind speed in the trifoiler. Trifoilers sailed by Greg and Dan K. beat the RAVEs at SF Speed Sailin in June 2006

RAVE user forum is here.

FWIW,

I believe that WindRider was part of the Confluence Watersports family until a couple of years ago. Around that time Confluence merged with another big rotomold company, Watermark.

And I believe WindRider was spun off as a separate company at the time of the merger, though it could have happened later/earlier.

Seems like Confluence now includes Wilderness, Perception, Dagger, Mad River and a couple of other brands that escape memory.

Andy Zimmerman, one of the founders of Wilderness Systems, is now building Heritage and Native Watercraft kayaks.

But I'm rambling...
