Question

I and my crew went out sailing yesterday on H 20 . We got up to 20 mph speed (checked with GPS ) and we capsised a boat . I have rihgting line installed under the tramp and another one around sriker ball. We spend in the water about a hour and we could not bring the boat back. Finally we got help from the power boat and we righted a boat back . I'am wondering what we were doing wrong ? Should I fill comtip with floatation foam because once comtip went under water we could not bring the boat back . Arnis

Practice it a couple hundred times in calm water. This is a technique thing, not a quick fix like mast floatation. Careful standing on the daggers of the 20! Also, make sure the blocks are uncleated and get the mast upwind (most basic righting rules)

Unless the CompTip is actually filling with water, adding foam inside will not help. Simply get the ends to seal. Nothing much better than pure air for floatation / displacement.

matt is right check your comp tip and make sure it is not filling up with water. all that weight (when filled with water) would even make it hard for an expert to right the boat

the main thing is make sure you have your mast pointed into the wind (or somewhere in that direction). we've tried to right our 20 with the bow in the wind and weren't able to do it. when my brother finally anted up and jumped in the water and swam the bow around, we were good to go

our comptip leaks a bit but we haven't had any trouble righting her in strong wind. i'm assuming the water is coming in at the connection to the metal part of the mast, and this can probably be easily fixed with some silicone.
