for statue of liberty race. Currently have both boats and will enter singlehanded. Not sure which one to use factoring in the handicap.

Single handed on the 18 is a recipe for disaster. Very crowded water and theres no way you can right it solo. It wouldn't be smart for the race committee to allow you to enter the 18 solo. The 16 would be the right choice and most likely you would be considered open class not 16 class.

I have had a chance to speak to the race commitee and they will allow single handed on the 18or the 16 with an L4 penalty however if I did go over your right it could be bad.(I deliver sailboats offshore and have come into NYC a couple of times so am aware of the traffic ,currents, etc.)I was unsure how the ratings worked but am clear now. Still undecided on which boat ,but I and three others from are junkyard beachcat crew will be singlehanding and looking foward to testing out or skills with the pros.Where in NC are you ?

Genmar,
I'm in Graham, near Burlington. Boat stays at Myrtle most of the time. In fact its there now getting hammered by the wind. They named the storm this morning, Andrea. First of the season!
