Hello,

My rudder control handle came off. No big deal, simple repair, but it does leave me wishing I had a blow up diagram for the AI, to make sure I put the parts back in the right order as I reattach.

In case a diagram is not available, please advise me of the installation order. I have the control handle (which came off in my hand) and a spring and control bar that connects back to the l-r rudder control lines, both found loose inside the hull.

Thanks!

Tim

Hi Tim and welcome to the forum.

Page 26 of the newest Accessories and Parts book (available online?) shows a steering crank, spring and nylon washer, assembled.

Also, have you looked at the Tech Notes at the top of this section? It shows an improved rudder handle that should stay put. There are some other mods as well that you should have that you'll find there.

Your Hobie dealer should be able to assist in these matters. If you still need help, let me know and I will take a photo of the assembly and post it for you. 8)

Thanks Roadrunner. That was helpful.

Unfortunately, when I searched my hull, I did not find the nylon washer. What size (ID/OD) do you think I should get to replace?

Also, the tech notes mention the fix for the rudder lift, does this issue also apply to the stearing control? I do have the brass insert with hex nut inside on my stearing control. Doesn't everybody have this setup? If not, I'll certainly pursue the upgrade.

Thanks again.

Tim

No, the steering handle has very little load and is not in need of the through bolt style control arm.

The nylon washer is likely just stuck somewhere (water surface tension to the inner hull).

The parts listing in the back of the catalof shows many more details on parts. The washer is 8080691 and says it is a 3/8 x 3/4.

You can also find rudder system information and a drawing of the internal workings on our support pages: http://www.hobiecat.com/support/index.html

Yes, dont know about your side of the pond but you can always go 'down under' www.hobiecat.com.au then the kayak section then click on accessories and downloaded the parts book. Happy shopping!
