Before I start leaving my Hobie on the beach I'd like to get a full cover for the hulls and tramp (mast will be up).

Murrays is selling Top Gun covers for $629.00!!!

Has anyone found good alternatives that are actually affordable?

I've done the tarp thing and it just hasn't worked well at all.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

G

try catsailor.com's online store. they have fitted covers for most cats. the one for the H16 is $180 and covers all the way down to the bottoms of the hulls. i'm going to get one for a hobie 14 so it can winter at my cabin. check it out here:

I own that cover and its held up pretty well. But beware, its not really fit for using with the mast up. There is no place for the shrouds to go through the sides of the cover. You have to cut a line up from the bottom of the cover up to where the chainplates attach to the shrouds...messing up your ability to have the cover tight on the sides of the hulls.

They give you some velcro to stick onto the cover in case you have to cut any part of it, but in the sand, the adhesive gets ruined pretty quickly and it fell off. One thing I might do on mine is to buy extra grommets and place a couple on the portion I cut to tie it together when I have it on.

I actually ended up having a sailmaker come out to the beach and make a custom cover out of Sunbrella. It's awesome. He reinforced it so that it's trailerable and there are 3 pieces - 1 for each hull and one for the tramp. The hull covers fit the hulls nicely and have tie-down areas for securing it to itself when it's on the trailer (not necessary when it's on the beach). They also have specific areas for the 4 posts, shrouds and forestay.

I'll take some pictures of it and post them.

The only drawback was the price tag. Not the cheapest accessory I've ever purchased but ya gotta take care of your toys right?
