I have a very old style of mast (it is circular on top in order to make space for the halyard pulley) and when I tried to install a baby bob, I realized that I would be drilling through the halyard pulley if I drilled through the top of the mast. Putting the fasteners in would then result in me not being able to raise the sail. I still want to attach the bob, but I don't know how. The bob has the four small holes intended for attachment purposes. I was thinking about drilling through the mast lower down to avoid the halyard, then tying the bob on. Is this feasible? The halyard pulley has a hole through the axle that could also serve attachement purposes.

there should be mounting instructions in the package for a non comptip installation. there are 4 short I'd guess 1/4" screws, you drill and tap the masthead for them to insert, they do not go in deep enough to effect the pulley.

I just had that problem too. You lightly drill but be very careful not to drill through the pulley, just the metal, then tap it. Wasn't as hard as it looks.

I just installed one on a 14 - no problme! Drill and tap 4x holes in the top cast piece. I used a #21 drill bit and I think 6x32 threads, as per the Baby Bob written instructions. Use 4x short SS machine screws (such that they are not long enough to contact the pulley for the main halyard), about 1/4" is good. You should be all set! Now I am adding the jib tracks and blocks to make her a 14T -glen

I just attached my Babybob last weekend.

You drill four holes in the mast head, but be very careful not to drill through the sheave (Pulley)

Next you tap the holes (10-32). I used two taps, a starting tap and then a bottoming tap as not to damage the sheave. You can get these at Sears.

The short scews are used to then mount the float.
