Open to all Adventure Island sailors.

Sandy Beach County Park in Rio Vista California
Saturday October 13th (weather permitting)
$5 covers day use and launch fees.

This is a fun sail. Come meet other northern California AI sailors. Bring your own food and drinks.

If the weather and winds are favorable we'll sail to Decker Island about 5 miles downriver/upwind for a picnic lunch on the island.

Projected weather from weather.com calls for 76* high temp and sunny with winds from the southwest at 10 mph.

How about a roll call to see how many boats plan on showing up?

I'll start:
Dan & Billie Juday and Todd & Barbara Craig, four AI's.

John Dillow thinks he can make it. Either his wife or Mel Morrison might take his second AI out so that brings us up to 7 with Bill.

What is the plan for more people than AIs? If we plan a remote lunch site wouldn't that split the group? I could bring the Getaway or another Hobie.
Just thinking on the keyboard.
Bill

Reread the posts, is this only for 1 AI 1 person? Not a problem if thats how its setup. Hmmm, "Sorry honey, you don't have an AI, you can't come". I could still sail with a black eye and various bruises. 8)

Everyone is invited. There are no hard and fast plans.

Todd and I have been talking about getting together for an AI sail and we just thought others in the area would like to join us. Just an opportunity to meet others with AI's, swap tips and tidbits we've learned and inspect various modifications.

Lunching on Decker Is. is just something my wife and I like to do when we go out. When the tide is in and there is a crowd at Sandy Beach there's not much room on the beach. Decker is a nice place to get away from the crowd.

There are a couple other beaches down river that are only accessible by boat. They are not as far as Decker Island. We could go there if people didn't want to sail that far.

Please, bring the wife, the kids, any sailboat.

Sounds great to me. I have wanted to meet other AI and Getaway Delta sailors since I got them. So far they are recreational and haven't evolved into a race class so its more informal and relaxed.
Some tide info for the Rio Vista Bridge area:

2007-10-13 12:22 AM PDT 0.14 feet Low Tide
2007-10-13 6:21 AM PDT 3.26 feet High Tide
2007-10-13 7:13 AM PDT Sunrise
2007-10-13 9:44 AM PDT Moonrise
2007-10-13 11:31 AM PDT 1.32 feet Low Tide
2007-10-13 5:02 PM PDT 4.39 feet High Tide
2007-10-13 6:32 PM PDT Sunset
2007-10-13 7:31 PM PDT Moonset

I see there is actually wind today, so off to the water!

Hi, Dan. When did you want to get this shindig going on Saturday. We have about sa 1 1/2 hour drive and others may also have to travel a ways. How does 10:30 or 11am sound? Perhaps you could also post some directions to the park, say from Hwy 12.
See you Saturday
Todd

Bill:
Thanks for posting the tides. I was looking at that earlier today as well. If we do go to Decker the tides are with us both ways. :D

You're going sailing on a Tuesday afternoon? What, no work today? I'm so jealous!

Todd: 10:30 to 11:00 sounds good to me. Let's make it official.

Directions:
There is one road into and out of Rio Vista, Hwy 12.

From the east (Interstate 5/Lodi):

Cross the Rio Vista bridge and take the very first right, Ryer Is. & Rio Vista. Make the very next right back under the Rio Vista bridge. You are on Front St. heading south. Turn right on Main St.. Next block turn left on 2nd St.. Follow 2nd south past River View middle school, just past the harbor turn left on Beach Dr. You will see the sign for Sandy Beach County Park. Follow Beach to the park entrance. You will see the launch ramp and trailer parking on left.

From the west (Hwy 80/Fairfield):

As you enter Rio Vista the first signal light is Summerset Dr. at Trilogy (the retirement community) The second signal light (about two miles down the road) is Main St./Hillside Terrace. About 100' before the light the road forks into Hwy 12 and Main St. Take the right fork onto Main St. Take Main St. down to 2nd and turn right on 2nd St. Follow 2nd south past River View middle school, just past the harbor turn left on Beach Dr. You will see the sign for Sandy Beach County Park. Follow Beach to the park entrance. You will see the launch ramp and trailer parking on left.

See ya'll there.

Weather update:

Well it looks like tomorrow will be the last nice day for a while here in Rio Vista. Incredible blessing!

Sunny with a high of 73*. Bring warm gear for sailing. Winds will likely be light so a trip to Decker may not be in the offing. No worries as the tides will make for a larger beach at the park. A much closer destination is a ride under the Rio Vista bridge. Don't worry, our boats clear without the need for a bridge opening.

Looking forward to meeting new friends. We'll bring our camera and if someone will show me how I'll post pics here of our "Gathering of Islands".

Dan

Thanks to all who came out:
Todd, Barbara, John, and Bill. With my wife Billie and I we had six AI's in all. Bill came late and we only met up on the way back. Sorry but no pictures of Bill. The price for coming late!

Sorry, no pics of sailing. It was mostly peddling anyways.

I may have been late, but not for dinner :D It was a pleasure meeting other "local" AIs and look forward to more get togethers.
Dan & Billie, thank you for Lucys.
Todd & Barbara, great to see Todd again and meet Barbara.
John, glad to have met and hope to do some future sailing.
Looking forward to the next one, Bill (the late)

That is quite a fleet of Islands you guys got together. Next time you need to remember to call the Weather Channel or Sail Flow and order some wind for the day an outing is planned. :)

It was a great get together. Nice to see AI sailors I haven't seen in awhile. Dan and Billie, you are great hosts. Thanks for arranging this. John spoke to a couple of dinghy sailors at Benicia Yacht Club and they were quite interested in the AIs. They offered to give us our own start during their races next spring. We should seriously consider it!
