How many when?

Roughly hundreds... in the mid to late 80's.

Matt,
I was curious what years they were made, I think the first year was 1988. I guess what I was asking is two fold: 1) How many total or how many for each year of production and 2) what were the years of production.

I think we quit in the early 90's (very early).

No sure how many. Production totals are never published.

Hello!

I just bought a 1995 SC with sail number 216, somewhere I've seen a pic of sail number 222.

The SC started production in 1992 (won Sailing World Boat of the Year in its category in 1993) and was still in production in 2003.

I've often wondered about this too. I've got sail/hull number 491 which is the latest sail number I've ever seen. It's a 1990 model.

I sail at a small club on the Mississippi. At one time we had four 21s there. There are now only two but a third is in the immediate area. We had a local regatta a few years back with all four boats sailing. I told everybody we should have applied for the 21 nationals.

I have sail/hull number 486. It was also built in 1990. I am located in Ft Walton Beach, Florida. There have been several 21 SE's on the waters between Sandestin and Pensacola over the years. This is the newest one that I have seen here for what it is worth. P.S. I highly recommend Sabre Sails, here in Ft Walton Beach for new sails, tramps, covers, etc. Boat has been out in the sun for 18 yrs, still looks brand new.

This is a 1989 Stars and Stripes edition. I love it but the sun has taken its toll on the grey hulls. I do find that two coats of Penetrol every other year, brings the color back. I am in need of new rudders if anyone has some spares. Question: Does the H21 SE use the same rudder blade as the H18? I believe the castings are the same for both H18 and H21 SE but not sure of the rudder size. The catalog shows a different number.

Hi guys... I have 2 Hobie 21 SC's. They were built in 2000 and 2001. The one manufactured in 2001 i bought Brand new from Hobie in Aug of that year and it had a sail number of 340. The other one was used and i was told was purchased new in Mid 2000 and had a sail number of 333.

Since i have had my new SC i have purchased 2 new main sails from Hobie. The first in May 2003 sail number 354 and the colour scheme was outrigger (turquoise blue yellow and green) and the other was only in April 2008 sail number 374 ( All turquoise blue, Special order).
I bought the used 2000 built SC in Oct 2005 and was given a brand new never been used all white mainsail numbered 373.

Whats fascinating to me is that if you go by sail numbers. Since OCT 2005 when i bought the used boat 373 there hasn't been one sail or even sport cruiser catamaran sold by Hobie cat cause i purchased a special order sail 374 in April this year. I have sinced learned that the sport cruiser line has been closed by Hobie a few years now but doesn't really explain them not selling any replacement sails between mid/late 05 and now?

By the way i use my 21 SC commercially in the Caribbean island of Barbados doing coastal cruises and snorkelling excursions. I have also had every single problem posted on these board about the SC i.e Comtip luff pull out, replacement centerboard springs etc. I can also give you some other horror stories especially since i use them 24/7 365. You know what i love them and wouldn't trade them for anything.

Happy SC sailing guys.

Yes the 21SE rudder blade is a differebnt part number. It is larger than the standard blades and is fiberglass.

First year was '88 (built in '87 but '88 model year). I have 80 built in '88-actually 79 as 80 was destroyed by tornado but 80 was my race number.

The boat # is in the boat serial number- something like comm179888. It might have some other digits in there but in this case the 79 is the boat #.
