Anyone have pics of any of the rumored 2008 AI improvements such as fairleads, paddle stowage, mast base upgrade, mast retaining clip upgrade, new rudder up/down line, and locking clips for support bars when folded back.
I didnt see any change on the site brochure or parts list for '08. I would like to order some of the parts but need part numbers.
Howie

I asked Matt Miller the same question yesterday :)

Check out: http://www.hobiecat.com/support/pdfs/ka ... _26-31.pdf

It seems to have all the latest updated parts listed.

In looking at the parts list there are several parts that have not been updated. The mast cup and mast base, the clip to release the mast, the paddle holder, the fairlead, the rear aka clips. Hobie needs to update the parts list for AI.

The parts (diagram) page is updated as per the link above. We will not be updating the parts list till the next catalog comes out in August.

Ummm... If Matt doesn't have them for you, pretty much no one else will.

I'm not sure about "improvements" in the '08 because I don't have an older one to compare but I have an '08 A.I.

You mentioned "paddle holder" and a clip to hold the akas back I believe.

The paddle holder on my '08 doesn't work at all because the cups (for lack of a better word) the paddle is supposed to sit on and then be held in place with a bungee are too close to the akas for the paddle to fit between them. I usually rest my paddle on top of my akas when underway and sometimes it gets washed overboard :x . Thank GOD for paddle leashes. I haven't found a better place to keep it yet :( .

The akas are held close to the hull when in folded position by a bungee as well, no "clips".

I don't know what the fairleads were like on the '07 but I DON'T like the position of the fairlead for the furling sheet as the position on the aka makes it very hard for the cleat to grip the line unless I run it under my foot and pull it downward and this is a P.I.T.B.

If you have questions about other parts or "upgrades" let me know and I'll try to post pics of them.

Brad

the aka clips I was referring to are to hold them together when they are off the kayak to store inbag.
I have the bungee on the 07 for paddle sowage ,but I heard there is a clip mounted on the aka for 08.

I have both an 2007 and a 2008, there are many nice upgrades to the 08. The paddle bungie and clip does work well and postions the paddle on top of the aka's. The mast base now has a post at the bottom instead of a hole for the mast to sit. The post repels sand, the hole attacts sand, so the wear on the mast is much less on the o8. The mast release is now a plaster finger clip instead of the little line pull, I like it better than the 07. The clips on the aka's just keep the support bar clipped in place when not in use. The rudder up/down control is far superior to the 07. The 08 comes with fairleads. The turbo fins are a great upgrade. Some of the seat issues have been fixed on the 08. Minor changes on the peddle set but they perform the same. So lots of little refinements on the 08. I have upgraded my 07 as much as possibe but the mast base/mast bottom on the 08 makes the 08 a much better boat. I have a cracked mast base on the 07 and can't get the dealer to respond to the problem. Go with an 08
