Improving the Hobie Trax Cart

In the past year I estimate I have wheeled my Oasis /Tandem kayak around 250 km’s using my home-made scupper cart. Most of this has been over bitumen roads and concrete paths but it has also been over gravel, sand and even crushed coral.

I had no joy here on ebay finding suitable plastic rims and I notice they only ship US
You may be able to get aluminium tube with a 5/8" OD and I/2" ID off the shelf. If not just get a thicker wall and drill it out to 1/2".
I'm interested to see how a semi-pneumatic wheel performs. Let us know how you go.

I just recently had a set of rims break on my OEM wheels. I already had on hand a set of the pneumatic steel rimmed wheels which I rigged to stay on, using a piece of platic tubing inserted inside the existing axle and a 3/8" lag bolt and fender washer screwed into the tubing. The lag causes the tubing to spread and grip the interior walls of the axle tube. It ain't pretty like your fix, the hole diameter of the wheel is larger than the OEM axle, but it stays on and seems to be working. Not bad for making do with what I had on hand at the time.

I like your fix better though!
