If you've ever had your paddle catch some water and start cartwheeling like this hapless kayaker, it definitely gets your attention!

The early Adventures with the single mount bungee retainer are particularly vulnerable. Here's a simple way to keep the paddle where it belongs.

This requires a light bow line (I use 550 parachute cord -- small, strong and unobtrusive). Here's a typical installation:

Pass your forward paddle blade inboard underneath the line...

...and back around over the line (note -- the line should be taut so there will be some resistance):

Then bungee in position as usual. This will cradle your paddle's forward shaft, preventing it from diving.

This keeps your paddle quickly available yet solidly secured. 8)

Excellent Idea. My paddle "cartwheeled" out of my yak one day while heading out of an inlet into the ocean with a screaming tidal flow. It caught a reel on the way up and that was the last I saw of a $140 outfit. Live and learn. Thanks RR for another great tip!

Hmmm RR--that "hapless kayaker" sure looks a lot like your twin brother!

Dick, upon close inspection, I do see a resemblance. I think that guy's handle is Slopoke and you can see why! He also has an Adventure so he must have excellent taste, despite an apparent lack of coordination!
