Want to try a trip down to cape may Possibly going out thru the channel and then down around the tip and back to the inlet to pull back out. wouldn't mind stopping at Lobster House for dinner after the sail.

Is this a doable trip in a day on a 21sc with motor? anyone familiar with the waters down there and ramp launch points around cape may harbor?

does the Lobster house have boat parking?

I would think this is a Do-able trip with motor assist to get away from the boat ramp and into Cape May Harbor. The Cape May Boat Ramp is located at Lat. 38°57'3.36"N Long. 74°54'35.72"W: Located at the first right turn after crossing the Parkway Bridge into Cape May. The boat ramp is popular with powerboats and a fisherman.

If you are planning to circle the Cape (Cape May Cannel to the Delaware Bay, around the Cape to the Harbor Inlet on the Ocean side, into Cape May Harbor) you will need the motor to cross the cannel. Depending on the wind direction you may need a motor to enter the Cape May Inlet (harbor) from the ocean side. I do not know how easy it is to raise the sail on a 21sc while underway, but you could motor the Cannel to the Del. Bay and pull up on Higbee Beach to raise you sails for the trip around the cape.

Another option is to launch at the Stone Harbor Hobie Beach at 122 street and sail to Cape May. It’s about 10 miles to the Inlet, 15 miles to the lighthouse. I’ve sailed from Stone Harbor to Cape May inlet easily in about than an hour. Nice round trip. I’ve never entered the Inlet on a Hobie ( no motor on my 18 ).

The Lobster house has boat parking (if you don’t mind having a wet a$$ from the Hobie to the bar  ). The Corinthian Yacht Club has a good restaurant as well and you’ll be with sailors.

You may try contacting Fleet 443 from Wildwood. They sail from Town Bank north of the Cape May Cannel on the Delaware. http://mysite.verizon.net/townbank.cats/
Good Luck. Let us know how it works out.

Hi John -
I couldn't get the link to the Wildwood fleet to work. I live in the Philly burbs and vacation in Cape May in the summer. I am familiar with the general location of the Hobie fleet in Town Bank (I've seen the cats on the beach). Do you know if there's any where in that vicinty from which an H14 could be launched? Preferably from a trailer although I do have beach wheels. Thanks!

Definitely weird. I still can't get it to open. Also googled the fleet and the links from there are also broken.

In any case, I'll be eager to hear if anybody know if I can launch in the North Cape May/Town Bank/Villas area. Looks like great cat sailing.

Sorry  Hobie Fleet 443 changed website locations: New location is
http://mysite.verizon.net/HobieFleet443

About day launch sites in or around Cape May/Town Bank/Villas area.
You may try contacting someone from that Fleet. I have seen some discussion of launch areas near Reeds Beach and at the East Point Lighthouse on the Delaware Bay, but I’ve never been to ether.

Let us know of any day launch areas you find in that area. I trailer my HC18 where ever I sail and I'm always interested in new locations.
