Phil- Great video's.

I had mine out this past weekend in Niceville and Destin. Great sailing weather these days on the bay isn't it! It's going to be very hard to not skip work tomorrow.

Where do you launch in Freeport? I have mainly put in at the Destin bridge or on Okaloosa Island but recently I found a new spot at the north side of the Mid Bay Bridge in Niceville.

I think the crossing vessel was a Windrider, stringy.

I like the camera out to the side much better. You can see what you're doing a lot better, and it feels more like the boat really feels: low, fast, and wet. The view from above and behind was good too, but seems a lot more sedate than the one where the camera is getting hosed by waves.

I dont own a AI, but would like to comment:

I watched video #2 - you are sailing dead downwind (DDW). I was thinking of the really bad sailshape and how slow you were going. Then you put the camera down and hook a different mainsheet and poof - better sail shape and it looks like you get much better performance out of it this way DDW.

the other tri in clip 4 is a winrider 17 quite a lot faster than the AI but no where as easy to assemble for a quick sail fix.

The views right from behind have my vote because it almost feel as if we were there just giving a look over your shoulder all the time.
How do you manage in the two others to avoid water drops on the camera despite spray ?

To answer the questions in order....
Weinerdog, I launch in LaGrange Bayou where I live. Feel free to come out and put in from my place. We have 3 AI's in the bayou and my friend in Shalimar has one and brings it out too. We could have a real get together with everyone in the panhandle. I have plenty of room for parking, launching and camping for that matter.

It is as stated a WindRider 17. A friend of mine has it and an AI but likes the WR on wet days for the less wet ride. It proved too much for the bay without a crew. I saw it with the main hull clear of the water several times in short time we were out there. It is a much faster boat in most conditions but it will turn over!

Scuzzlebutt, That is the "Bungie cord barber hauler". Don't leave home without it! Always looking for a better one but for keeping it simple this is it. Just get your wife one too

Polecat, the back rest is just some 1.5 inch PVC that is hose clamped onto the rear cross beam. I will get a picture up with details. I originally used it to stick an umbrella in but find it handy for lots of things now.

Arno and Tom, I am torn between the two views. I liked the side view for the same reasons you do but after seeing the center, higher view it seems to give more depth to the swells and to the action of the boat. Almost makes me sea sick when using full screen. I now have a 16' cable for the VIO so the camera can be mounted in some really far away spots while having the unit in my lap.
I had the inline mike get under water in the seat area and had some very amusing sounds on several loops! Water drops get on the lens at times but gets washed or blown off most of the time. The centered high videos were high enough that the spray didn't get to it I think. I like having other boats in the shot to give some interest and liven things up a bit.

Kayaking Bob, I still find lots of water shooting in the dodger holes even with the spray skirt. Comes up in the slot between the skirt and the hull. I am going back to the one piece skirt and see it works better.
The thing I dislike most about the dodger is that it can be difficult to uncleat the main at times. Always hitting the top of the dodger and its hard enough anyway with the cleats right in front of the right pedal. Wish there was somewhere to reposition the cleats.

Hey Phil, great video - gives a proper sense of what it's like with your ass in the water and the speed. What camera are you using and how did you get the view from behind. Very impressive and the weather reminds me of home!

My first thought was if you had the sail furled when I saw the ama submerged. I tend to furl to avoid the ama burying in the water. It's my sense that it slows me down but it didn't look that way on your video. You looked nicely cocooned from the weather with the spayskirt and the dodger. I find I get very wet in those conditions which are very like the seas here with plenty of gusts.

I liked the video from behind, it gave perspective and as you say, it's nice having other craft in the shots.

Phil, can you see a gap between the hull and the Sprayskirt? If so, have you tried to tighten the inside ropes?
