The strip comes with it, as do the hose clamps. Lubricate the buggers with lanox though, because they rust out quickly. RAM-108BU is the part # of that particular mount.

Thanks Josh, I was actually editing my previous post as you were replying to it. I checked the part # above and there is a slight error on the McLean website. RAM-108BU actually has a 1.5" ball. The part # for the 1" ball version is RAM-B-108BU. At least McLean had it prominently displayed. I've been looking for a fitting like that for ages and couldn't find it on the RAM website. I believe you can buy marine grade stainless steel hose clamps.

That's the # that it was invoiced to us as (and I did notice the discrepancy at the time, but just went with the # that was on the invoice (to prevent confusion in re-ordering down the track). I'll look into it though and fix tomorrow if it turns out to be an invoice printing error.

And yep, the fact that fringe RAM products like this is fairly difficult to track down is exactly the reason I created a page dedicated to their most popular lines for yak fishing.

You've won me over. Shame your business is 450km away.

That's putting it mildly, shame it's half a World away!

I'm very grateful to you 5thofNovember for sharing these details and for the other guys comments. I agree that stainless steel marine grade clips would be essential for the salt water. Everything here rusts terribly if not properly protected or avoided. I laugh quietly to myself when I see neighbours putting outside lights on their homes, straight out of the pack from the DIY Store, and then notice them hanging off the wall 9 months later held only by the electrical cable. I have seen marine ply screwed and filled with 3 coats of paint look horrid shortly thereafter as the rust streaks from the screws.

These ram mounts and adaptors seem to offer a wide range of options which opens endless possibilities.

Now that you guys are getting me interested in fishing, how do you keep the rods in the holders from being whipped out by a large fish or a rogue wave?. Do you use some kind of leash.

Many thanks,

Upyaboya

5thofNovember.

Can you please explain the umbrella looking thing hanging on the rear of the Dune Island?

It looks like a bimini top but it is no the one Hobie offers, plus it looks like it is mounted to a ram tube, or maybe the starboard pole holder?

Wher'd you get it, is is easily adjusted for either side, and how does it sail with the shade deployed.

TIA

BTW the Dune AI looks Awesome!

Have red Ai - wife has yellow one.

Good to see you're hail and hearty Yakaholic. I thought the bimini or umbrella was a fishing net.

Right you are!
Didn't recognize it, as most hand nets have larger, round openings, plus the angle made it look like a new bimini.

When I fish while sailing I too carry a net and keep it in a pole holder mounted to the rear aka arm.

Yes, Tie a lanyard from the reel to the crossbar

Its the lanyards that are important, ignore the twisted sheets and half open rear hatch!!! I think I had to go grab something from there in a hurry...It was all a total mess that day. I have only been trolling from the AI a little over a year...still everytime I catch a fish utter mayhem ensues. Its pure PANIC!!!!!!!

Philip1el, I think I would be in a panic too if I had to land that kind of monster. Then I'd be terrified that the seals in my part of the world, who regularly follow me looking for a free lunch, would eat him!

As I've said previously, I'm a novice to fishing but I'm learning fast. The seals though are a nuisance unless I go quite far out.

So a simple lanyard does the trick - many thanks.

Upyaboya, maybe you should consider a chiller box mounted in the rear cargo bay, like Keith (Chekika) has. That should keep the buggers at bay.

Yes Chrisj, I think a cooler box might be just the trick.

I was looking forward to getting out today but there's a small craft warning, a force 6 and plenty of white caps so it won't be happening.
