Matt,

How much weight are these designed to handle?

Thanks,

We put an official 200 lb capacity on these. You can stand on the thing on hard ground, but can pop a buckle loose if you were to stomp on one directly. 200 lbs for safety.

Wow-impressive! 8)
I didn't think it was possible to increase the versatility of an already extremely versatile boat but Hobie have with this option! When will they be available downunder?

They could complement Bob's sprayshields really well. I've got used to not getting splashed by waves coming over the bow, so now I get resentful when I cop one side on.
PS: Can you buy just one if you only have one dog?

Wowser! Matt Those look great :D

Q. When you get a set of trampolines are they identical or is each tramp desiged for a specific side? In other words is there a port tramp and a starbord tramp?

Also, if one had a rare aka brace failure wouldn't an installed tramp help keep the ama properly or partially deployed? Seems like it might. Which adds safety.

I just recently got into removing the mirage drive while sailing, expecially in open areas. The Tramp may make a perfect place to lay the leashed drive when not in the drive well.

Now I wonder which color would be best. Black would look the best but I suspect the gray would not be so hot in the summertime.

Which color are Island owners here getting?

Looks like a nice add-on! I kept planning to make one but now I don't need to. Thanks Hobie!

I just saw some kid zipping along on a pair of those -- said he was steering with his feet!

They do look cool. 8)

Brings up another question in addition to the one above about left & right sides.
Just how much stress will our carbon/fiberglass masts take?

In stiff wind I have always had more fear about my mast breaking than I was about tipping over. Now if one hikes out onto a tramp you have obviously reduced heeling and the mast and sail are literally forced up into wind. One normally reefs when tha lee ama becomes buried, with the tramp you could minimize the "buried ama" and increase your speed - but is that asking the mast to do too much?

Or, asked a diffent way. Would an Island always tip/capsize/heel over before a mast breaking event occured, and how much does hiking out change this balance? Does Hobie consider hiking out on the tramp an approved use of the Island?

I know our AI owners in Hawaii routinely venture out in 25+knt winds and I have read of no mast breaking. Is our mast really close to unbreakable and my concerns unfounded?

I'd like to push the boats limits but seek info from engineers and experienced users.

One minor detriment of the tramps may be if you are in and out of the boat frequently - the tramps are in the way. My normal boat entry consists of climbing over the extended aft starboard aka arm and easily sitting in the boat with the hull beside me.

Is it easy to put a tramp on or off while on the water?
(assuming of course it is already rolled around the front aka)

Hobie has added a whole new dimension to the Island with these tramps. I love the fact that they continue to improve and accesorize an already fantastic boat. Rock on. :)

Multiple questions:

Yes, they only come in a pair and are port / starboard specific.

Yes... they would tend to keep the amas deployed even without the brace connected.

Can't tell you what the breaking load might be. Never failed one. They are very strong.

Limitation is still the ama volume. Hiking would add more stress, but has not shown to be an issue. I would say... hiking is factory approved.

Great news indeed.....can't wait to get a set. I don't have to worry about the black one's heating up, doesn't get that warm over here!

Does this now mean that the other half might get to experience the thrill of the A1?

Now that I can also bring the dog, I won't have to worry about those darn seals.

Yet again, well done Hobie ....thanks for listening.

Would a seal be deterred by a dog? What have you got - an Irish wolfhound?

Matt

I like the trampoline idea, how soon before Hobie offers the tillar extension so we can hike out on them?

Thanks

Bob L.
