Monday, a good friend and I did some smallmouth fishing on the Ouachita River. The water levels were just about right, it was a bright sunny day and the fishing probably would have been even better had it been cloudy. This was at the Dragover Recreation Area, which is unique because the river basically makes a 3 mile loop so you can put your kayak in upstream and then walk back to get your vehicle from the pullout. I attached a google map link so you can see the loop we floated.

The water was high enough, I decided to use my mirage drive. It worked great for holding steady in the current and going back upstream in pools. I did hit one rock that bent a fin, but I was able to make a repair on shore using a tree root for leverage to bend it back straight!

We caught 15 smallmouths between the 2 of us, no monsters, but a few that were over the 12" size limit. I did see several larger fish along the way.

My friend Corbet Deary took the photos and wrote a great article about our trip for a local paper. He is an outdoors enthusiast, writer and a great phtographer. We had a great time and fished and kayaked for about 6 hours.
