I finally got to the bottom of the tight-steering issue on BOTH of our I9s boats. No it wasn't the tension of the lines or anything pressing on them. No, the lines did not need to be lubricated. Both of our boats had twisted lines at the control. On one the lines were twisted a half turn the other a full turn. If your steering is pretty tight open up the steering control and make sure your lines are not crossed/twisted.

Hint:

The 2 screws that hold the control base in place go into a couple of lock nuts that don't really fit the plastic base well enough to hold. It looks like the factory put glue on them to help with assembly. You may need to use some ingenuity to get them out and back in but if your lines were twisted you'll be glad you got to the bottom of this. You MAY be able to check/fix your lines without messing with those screws (much preferred).

Anyone know where to get some of that control line? The boat with the full-twist lines got enough fraying that I ought to replace the lines. Won't happen today though because there is fishing to be done!

We can send some along at no charge due to the twisted line issue. My email at the bottom of this post. Send me an address.
